Our Forest Pre-Schools & Nursery

Hinton The Forest Pre-School

The Forest Pre-School at Hinton is our original and most established setting.  It has been operating from Badger Wood (The Reading Room) since September 2012 and achieved a Good grade in our latest Ofsted inspection. Based in 1.5 acres of private woodland we have created special areas to encourage the children to develop physically, socially and emotionally.  Across the woodland we have our fire circle, climbing log, mud pit, stream, wild wood, Bell tent, mud kitchen and tool area.

The children have the opportunity to play and explore across the whole woodland and we support them to build and explore their own play and ideas.  We also plan specific Forest School activities so the children can experience fire lighting, cooking on campfires and tool work including bow saws and bush craft knives.  A short walk across the farmers field brings us to the Big wood, a 9 acres untouched woodland, which we often visit to collect natural resources and for a picnic. Our large Emperor tent provides us with a break from the weather or a quiet time.  Decked out with rugs, blankets and cushions the children can come in here for stories, singing and puzzles.  The heated bell tent is the perfect spot to warm up during the winter months. We head in here for snack and lunch when its to cold and wet to sit outside.

Hinton The Forest Nursery

The latest addition to our Hinton site is The Forest Nursery.  Tucked into the woodland our traditional Yurt provides a cosy and warm environment for children from 18 months old.  Inside there are treasure baskets, heuristic play sets, books, puzzles and a cosy corner for rests or naps.  Staying true to our Forest School ethos the fun really starts for the little adventurers when they head out into their own section of woodland.  They can enjoy clambering over the log piles, digging in the wood chips, exploring the woodland and finding dens and shelters to play in.  There will also be plenty of time to join the older children in the rest of Badger Wood so they can gain a full Forest School experience.

Copythorne The Forest Pre-School

Based on the site of Copythorne C of E Infant school we have created our own Forest School garden which includes a fire pit, mud kitchen, mud pit, and bug hotel. We drop off and pick up from the garden at the start and end of each session. We have access to a small classroom within the school that we use during extreme weather conditions (high winds, thunder and lightning). We also use the large school pond for pond dipping and bug hunting. Each day the children head to our own private woodland which is a 5 mins walk from the school. Here the children experience our classic forest school activities such as tool work, campfires and woodland exploration. We have developed interesting areas for the children to play and explore including the climbing and balancing course, secret paths and dens through the trees, story tent and various tyre & rope swings. The children will stop for snack and lunch here to. During the colder months we can retreat into the cosy Bell tent to enjoy books, cars and puzzles. We also make use of the surrounding area with trips to Copythorne common, nature walks and visits to the local farm.

North Baddesly The Forest Pre-School

This is our latest addition to the Forest Pre-School family! Based on the site of North Baddesley Infant School we have developed our own Forest School woodland. Using the copse at the back of the school grounds we have created a secure environment for the children to play and explore. They can go bug
hunting, dig in the mud pit, clamber over the woodland climbing logs, cook up mud pies in the mud kitchen and create woodland art. The children will also be able to explore our woodland mountain unique to this setting. Each
session will have a Forest School focus where children will experience cooking on a campfire and using a range of tools. Our indoor space is provided by our
large Bell tent where the children can go for a quiet time, reading books and playing puzzles. We also head in here for snack and a warm up during the winter months.
